WHY HELP ? Devastation! Disaster!! Catastrophe!!! These words barely describe the severity of the desolation left behind by the mighty ocean as it rose into a mammoth Tsunami at Christmas 2004 and tore at the heart of Sri Lanka. Nature's elemental fury bruised Mother Lanka, robbing her of nearly 30,000 lives, and leaving as much as 4 per cent of her people desolate.

HELP Sri Lanka Inc. was formed in response to the unprecedented tragedy caused by the Tsunami. Its sole purpose is to identify key projects within tsunami-affected areas of Sri Lanka, then seek out the funding needed to support these projects.

We aim to create a better quality of life for the thousands of Sri Lankan men, women and children who “had pitifully little but have lost everything…”

OUR MISSION  Building homes, purifying water, sourcing educational needs, building pre-schools and secondary schools, providing training facilities for skills training, providing medical support are all projects that HELP Sri Lanka has undertaken with the greatest enthusiasm and importance. Ours is a central organisation that provides a means for channelling funds raised within Australia, to support Sri Lankan projects directly.

WHO ARE WE?  HELP Sri Lanka's charter is to make a difference to the communities in tsunami-affected areas of Sri Lanka and the needy by:

  • Co-ordinating the collection and disbursement of funds (and other relief in kind) within Sri Lanka to those affected by the tsunami tragedy.
  • Conducting various fund-raising activities.
  • Disbursing funds and other relief to those affected by the tsunami tragedy equitably and without prejudice.
  • Ensuring the funds (and relief in kind) are totally accounted for and the operations of the Committee are transparent.

Some of our major donors/partners include the City of Melbourne, AuSLMAT (Australia Sri Lanka Medical Aid Team) and the Sri Lanka Association of Victoria to name just a few.  All donations to Help Sri Lanka are tax-deductible.
